The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Samuel Awuku has sent a message of solidarity to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as they vote to elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2020 general elections.

The NDC is the main opposition party in the country and hope to wrestle power from the NPP in 2020.

The elections are currently underway in all constituencies and Sammy Awuku took to his Instagram page to wish them well.

The message read: "As the 260,000 delegates of the NDC head to the Polls today to elect one out of the 7 Presidential Aspirants, we in the NPP wish them well and will continue to pray for a smooth and violence-free election. Let democracy be the winner!.
At the end, let's count thumbs and not heads today"

Seven aspirants are contesting for the flagbearer position.

There are former President John Dramani Mahama, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin; former Vice Chancellor of University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi; former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr Sylvester Mensah.

The rest are former Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah; businessman, Alhaji Nurideen Iddrisu, and a cadre, Mr Goosie Tanoh.

Many have tipped former President John Mahama to win the race and lead the party into the 20202 elections.
