General Secretary of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Mohammed Frimpong says the democratic stakes in this year’s election are high as such democratic pluralism must not be stifled so competition can thrive.

After the NDP stated its displeasure with the disqualification of presidential aspirant, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings through its lawyers and the EC standing it grounds, Mr. Frimpong has served notice the party will file a writ at the law court today.

“We have begun the paper work,” he informed Bernard Avle adding “it’s their word against ours”.

With 53 days to election on December 7, any injunction could effectively mean a postponement of the elections but the NDP secretary couldn’t be bothered.

“Democracy must thrive on rule of law. No excuse to step on rights. There must be long term certainty with the filing of nomination papers. It shouldn’t be like joining an occult and consulting celestial beings.”

“Even if it will take postponement of the election so be it,” Mr. Frimpong asserted.

He said the Electoral Commission (EC) narrowed the window to interact and effect whatever correction there was when it offered the certified register in the first week of October saying a class action involving the 12 other disqualified aspirants against the EC won’t be a bad idea.
