Former vice-president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will today appear before the vetting committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as part of the process to contest the party’s 2026 presidential primary.
The vetting exercise is intended to ensure that all aspirants meet the party’s requirements, uphold fairness, and comply with internal regulations.
The former Vice President is expected to present his leadership credentials, political vision, and plans to unite the party ahead of the polls. Running on the campaign theme “Win With Bawumia”, his team has positioned him as a strong contender to lead the NPP into the next general elections.
If cleared, Dr. Bawumia will be among the aspirants on the ballot in what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive flagbearer contests in recent party history.
He will face competition from four other aspirants: Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former NPP General Secretary; Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Assin Central MP and businessman; Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture; and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister.
The NPP has scheduled its primaries for January 31, 2026.
