Sixty-three (63) Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party Minority side have publicly declared their support for former Vice President and flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a joint statement, the MPs, part of an earlier group of legislators who publicly declared their support for Dr Bawumia earlier this year, said their decision was driven by conviction and appreciation of his track record, leadership, and contribution to both the NPP and national development.

They described Dr Bawumia as a “visionary, resilient, diligent and pragmatic” leader whose ideas and policies have transformed governance and inspired innovation. “From his days as a brilliant economist at Bank of Ghana to his service as Vice President, Dr Bawumia has proven that leadership is not about words but work, not about entitlement but excellence and delivery,” the statement read.

The MPs further praised his role in Ghana’s digital transformation and public sector reforms, saying, “He has brought clarity to governance, inspired innovation and built systems that work through Ghana’s digital transformation, financial inclusion and modernisation of public service delivery.”

According to the group, Dr Bawumia represents the continuity of the NPP’s founding principles, which emphasise freedom, democracy, and development through enterprise. They likened his leadership to the legacy of the party’s forebears — Dr J. B. Danquah, Dr K. A. Busia, and Chief S. D. Dombo — noting that his qualities align with the party’s enduring spirit.

“Dr Bawumia is a leader who respects our history yet reimagines our future. He has walked with the NPP through every season of victory and challenge, serving faithfully, defending our record and carrying our message with conviction and grace. He has been tested, trusted and proven,” the MPs said.

Reiterating their collective stance, the legislators declared, “We declare our total and unwavering support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of our great Party. We have seen his work, his discipline, resilience and his readiness to serve. We believe that Dr Bawumia embodies the next chapter of the NPP’s vision, a future built on competence, innovation, unity and hope.”

The MPs also appealed to party delegates nationwide to rally behind Dr Bawumia in the primaries, describing him as “the leader who can win the confidence of the Ghanaian people and secure victory for the NPP in 2028 and beyond.”
