NPP flagbearership race: Over 200,000 delegates to elect Akufo-Addo's successor today

After days of uncertainty and tense moments, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) goes to the polls today to elect a flag bearer for the 2024 general elections.

Over 200,000 delegates are expected to participate in the voting, will be held in 277 voting centres across the country under the supervision of the NPP’s Constituency Presidential Election Committee.

Among the delegates, 436 will cast their votes at the party’s head office at Asylum Down, Accra. The Ashanti Region will have 34,987 delegates voting, while the Ahafo Region will have 4,204 delegates.

In the Greater Accra Region, a significant number of 39,134 delegates will participate. The Volta Region will have 11,995 delegates in attendance.

The four-horse race is between the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin, Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agric Minister, Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh.

Meanwhile, all four presidential aspirants the NPP have signed an undertaking to accept the results of today's presidential contest.

The aspirants have also agreed not to resign from the Party if they lose the elections and support the eventual winner of the contest. 

They signed the agreement at a meeting convened by the NPP’s National Council of Elders in Accra on Thursday.

President Akufo-Addo attended the meeting in person.
