The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has chosen Prof. Mike Oquaye to lead the Vetting Committee responsible for the party's flagbearership contest.

The decision was made by the National Steering Committee on behalf of the National Council on Tuesday, May 30.

In a press statement issued on Friday, June 30, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced the appointment, citing Article 10(3)(F)(ii) of the NPP's constitution as the basis for the decision.

Mr Kodua subsequently inaugurated the committee and emphasized the importance of adhering to the party's constitution and maintaining transparency in their activities.

The NPP is set to elect a flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections on November 4, 2023. However, due to the large number of candidates, a Special Congress will be held on August 26 to narrow down the field to five.

Currently, 10 individuals have submitted their nomination forms to compete for the flagbearership position.
