The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Minority in Parliament will converge today, Monday, July 7, 2025, at the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to protest against the ongoing detention of Abdul-Wahab Hanan, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO).
The party has accused EOCO of infringing upon his human rights, asserting that the conditions of his bail have already been fulfilled.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s Newsroom on Sunday, NPP National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha condemned EOCO’s management of the situation, urging the agency to pursue justice through the judicial system instead of maintaining the former CEO in custody.
“If Hanan has committed an offense, he should be brought before a court of law to have his opportunity to defend himself. We will proceed to the EOCO office alongside several MPs, party supporters, and executives to inquire about the reasons for his continued detention. We seek clarification on why he remains in custody when the stipulated conditions for his release have been satisfied.”
He also voiced his dissatisfaction regarding EOCO’s inadequate communication and what he termed as punitive detention, despite the bail assessment surpassing the necessary criteria.
“The evaluation report that we have far exceeds those bill conditions. When everything was finished, we were calling Raymond Archer, his deputies, to come and just go through and grant the young man bail to go home, none of them picked their phone calls. So, he has been left there as punishment for exactly what we do not know.”
Abdul-Wahab Hanan was arrested on June 25 along with his wife, as part of EOCO’s investigations into alleged economic crimes at NAFCO. His wife has since been granted bail set at GH¢30 million, while Hanan remains in custody—still to satisfy the full terms of his GH¢60 million bail.
The arrest, which took place simultaneously in Accra and Tamale, also led to the detention of a third, unnamed individual believed to be linked to the investigation.
