The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a temporary pause to its ongoing Thank You Tour across the country.
This move is to allow the party to actively participate in the upcoming “Save the Judiciary” demonstration on May 5, 2025.
The protest is being led by a coalition of five political parties that are speaking out against President John Mahama’s recent suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
This protest is being organised in response to President John Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, a move that the participating parties have condemned as a serious threat to the independence of the judiciary.
“The party intends to suspend the tour so that all of us can be part of this important national exercise. This is bigger than party lines. We are fighting for Ghanaians and the future of our democratic institutions,” Henry Nana Boakye, National Organiser of the NPP, said.
According to him, the demonstration represents a united stand for justice and constitutional order.
He also noted that the NPP welcomes the support of the Minority in Parliament, whose leadership has pledged to stand with the coalition on this issue.
Party members and supporters are being mobilised across the regions to take part in the event.
Organisers say the turnout will send a strong message to the government about the need to uphold the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary.
