OFFICIAL: Nov 7 voting day confirmed

The proposed November 7 voting day bill has been gazetted by  Ghana’s Parliament if documents.

 

The gazette will allow Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Ghana to be held on November 7, 2016 as against the usual December 7 voting date.

Documents we have chanced upon suggest that the bill has been passed by Parliament and assented to by President John Dramani Mahama which amends article 112(4) of the Constitution will make provision for parliamentary elections to be held well ahead of the expiration of the tenure of Parliament to ensure an effective and smooth transition.

‘The committee specified that the general elections should be held on every first Monday of November in an election year in order to have elections on a specific day instead of having elections on a specific date.
