The death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem has put in limbo the much publicised "JM Toaso Health Walk" which was to be held tomorrow in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Similar to the one held in Accra last Sunday which led to clashes between NDC supporters security men at the residence of NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, the health walk was expected to be graced by President John Mahama has been suspended indefinitely.

The suspension according to the NDC is a show of respect to the Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II as he mourns the Queenmother of the Asante Kingdom, Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem, who also happens to be his biological mother.

Nana Afia Kobi, according to official communication from the Manhyia Palace died on Monday evening aged 111 years and in accordance with Asante customs a ban has been placed on all funerals, drumming and noise making throughout the Asanteman until after the final funeral rites of the late Queenmother.

Any health walk of this nature is likely to flout the ban which the NDC wants to prevent.Â
