Parliament has approved nominations of Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, as well as Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings for Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
The approval was given on Thursday evening, August 27, 2026, following their vetting earlier in the day by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
With the approval, the two ministers are expected to take over their respective ministries in the coming days.
Soon after their approval, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, congratulated the two nominees.
He, however, urged them to go the extra mile in resolving the various challenges facing their respective ministries.
Mr Bagbin reminded the two ministers that their new responsibilities required them to combine their roles as legislators with their ministerial duties.
Besides, he urged them to continue to draw on the experience and responsibilities they had previously carried in the House.
“You are going to wear additional hats and that is not going to be easy,” he said.
Pointing out to Mr Ayariga, who is the immediate Majority Leader, he reminded him that his new assignment would be particularly demanding.
“And particularly my son, Honourable Mahama Ayariga, you have a very tall mountain to climb,” he said.
