An Accra High Court has dismissed a suit by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) contesting the ‘astronomical filing fees’ by the Electoral Commission.

The details to explain the reason behind the decision by the court would be announced by the Court on Monday, October 10.

The PPP in a writ filed at the high court prayed the court to stop the EC from increasing the filing fees astronomically.

The PPP has described the GHC50,000 presidential filing fee as arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable and has accordingly filed a writ at the Court for the amount to be reviewed.

Subsequently the PPP also presented the filing fees to the EC Boss, Charlotte Osei who accepted after rejecting others. The PPP also cited Mrs. Osei for contempt.

The PPP through its lawyer, Dennis Afosu Appiah prior to the dismissal stated that it cannot afford the GHC10,000 filing fees for its parliamentary candidates.
