The battle between the Electoral Commission(EC) and the Progressive People Party(PPP) has taken a new twist after an Accra High Court has dismissed a suit filed by the PPP, challenging the EC’s “exorbitant” filing fees for nominees of the 2016 general elections.

The case was dismissed because the presiding judge said she lacked jurisdiction to hear the case and therefore had to strike it out.

The PPP is court to compel the EC to revise the GHC50,000 filling fees for Presidential candidates and GHC10,000 for Parliamentary candidates.

The PPP has on September 19, filed an interlocutory injunction at the Hight Court in a bid to stop the EC from receiving the filing fees.

But in a compromising twist, the EC received accepted the filing fee of the PPP flagbearer but rejected that of the other parties.

Going forward, the EC was given the greenlight to accept the filing fees while the suit remained in court to challenge the amount.

Should the PPP continue to pursue the case, it would be another battle in court with a suit challenging the disqualification of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom from the Presidential race due to supposed errors on his nomination form.
