Suspended chairman Paul Afoko shall know his fate on July 26, 2016 when judgement is pronounced on the case involving his suspension as the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after oral submissions were heard in court and parties involved asked to submit written addresses simultaneously within seven days.

This is after Anthony Yeboah of the Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court last Friday presided, as last witness for the NPP; Peter Mac-Manu got cross-examined by Mr. Afoko’s lawyers.

Mr. Mac-Manu, who is the party’s campaign manager for Election 2016 was the second NPP witness to be cross-examined in the case. The first was Chairman of the party’s Disciplinary Committee, the Most Reverend Samuel Asante-Antwi.

Mr. Afoko holds that after MP for Akropong, William Ofori Boafo asked to be replaced on the committee to attend to medical needs; the addition of Tarkwa-Nsuaem MP, Mrs. Gifty Eugenia Kusi was done without regard to the party’s constitution making his suspension null and void but the NPP maintains Mrs. Kusi was duly appointed.

According to Most Rev. Asante-Antwi in his cross-examination, Mrs. Kusi got appointed as a result of a letter written by the Minority caucus in Parliament on October 1, 2015.

Peter Mac-Manu also stated per NPP’s constitution, the DC had the power to recommend any member or officer of the party to the NEC to be sanctioned in the event that person violated any regulation in the party and so Mr. Afoko’s suspension was in accordance with law.

Mr. Afoko dragged the NPP to court in December last year, claiming that his suspension was not in tandem with the party’s constitution.
