The bid by New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth organiser, Sammy Awuku to become the party's national organiser has received a major boost following the withdrawal of his most powerful contender from the race.

Hopeson Adorye, a member of the party's communication team tipped to vie for the position, when the NPP's goes to congress to elect national executives in 2018, has indicated he would not do so. He contested the same position and lost in 2014.

Mr Adorye says he is shelving the ambition for now because his consultations suggest that he and Sammy Awuku would be drawing from the same support base, putting delegates in the difficult situation of choosing between them.

Announcing the decision not to contest on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen program, Mr Adorye explained that his decision stems from his belief that executives of the party from the constituency to national levels should be selected based on consensus to avoid the wranglings that come with elections.

“I have decided to step down and throw in support for Sammy Awuku in the interest of the NPP. There is no need for any internal struggle which might affect the unity of the party” he stated.

Some analyst believe the performance of Sammy Awuku as the youth leader of the NPP, especially during the 2016 elections, makes him the favourite over Hopeson Adorye.
