Speaker recalls Parliament for 'urgent business' on May 2

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has directed the assembly of all members of Parliament on Tuesday, May 2.

The lawmakers are to assemble for an “urgent parliamentary business”, according to the notice of recall issued by the Speaker on Thursday, April 20.

Speaker Bagbin is exercising this authority based on Order 42(3) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.

Alban Bagbin in the statement wrote: “In exercise of the power conferred on the Speaker by order 42(3) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, do hereby direct that Parliament shall notwithstanding anything to the contrary, be recalled from recess to sit on Tuesday, the 2nd day of May 2023, at ten o’clock in the forenoon, at Parliament House, Accra, to consider urgent parliamentary business.”

Parliament proceeded on recess on Friday, March 31 and was expected to reassemble in July.
