Th Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has advised all three Commissioners of the Electoral Commission (EC) to step aside for full-scale investigations into the various allegations of misconduct and fraud they have levelled against each other.

A statement from the PPP said the  country cannot allow these allegations to fester unduly,  iindicating that the potential for the accusation to disturb the peace and tranquility of the country is immense.

"We believe the issues raised in the allegations are serious enough to merit further interrogation."

Some unnamed staff of the Commission have petitioned the Presidency and EOCO for full-scale investigations into alleged misconduct and fraud on the part of the Chairperson Charlotte Osei.

In a 28-point response, the Chairperson refuted the claims and accused her two deputies of breaching procedure at the Commission by personally receiving 6 million dollars in cash, to organise primaries for a political party without recourse to the structures of the commission.

But in a statement, the PPP said the three Commissioners should step aside for an independent investigative body to look into the allegations they've levelled at each other.

“The Commissioners should, therefore, voluntarily step aside or be compelled to step aside in order to begin the process to clean up the quagmire which has apparently now engulfed the institution charged with the responsibility for ensuring the peaceful transitions and dynamics of our chosen governance systems.”

Meanwhile the names of the petitioners have reportedly been submitted to the presidency.
