The Apex court of the land has rendered on Monday July 18 that Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings can present herself as the parliamentary nominee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

Incumbent MP Nii Armah Ashitey dragged Dr Agyeman-Rawlings to the Supreme Court after tasting defeat in the party’s parliamentary primaries last year challenging her eligibility claiming she was not a registered voter at the time of the primaries but Madam Zanetor has since registered as a voter during the Electoral Commission’s limited voter registration exercise a few months ago.

The Supreme Court stressed an individual can only be a candidate after the Electoral Commission (EC) has opened the opportunity for filing. The Apex court therefore held since the EC was yet to take that action; the argument of Dr Rawlings not being eligible was empty.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings can now strategize for the New Patriotic Party’s candidate Mr. Philip Addison.
