The General Secretary of National Democratic Congress [NDC] has downplayed suggestions by some leading members that there are deep divisions within the party.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia says such opinions and calls for unity are based on a particular issue, the defeat of the party in the 2016 elections and the way foreward.

Speaking on the pulse program on JoyNews, Mr Asiedu Nketia stressed disagreements would definitely happen in a democratic dispensation. Such debates on the direction of the party is required for building a strong and collective political institution as the NDC.

He noted that political parties thrive on conflict and debate and the majority and not an individual’s view, should be dominant in the decision making process.

The NDC last week began official events to mark its 25th anniversary. It started with a debate by leading members on the future of the party last Friday, and a rally at Ashaiman on Saturday.
