Former President Akufo-Addo has criticized the Mahama-led administration, nine months into its tenure, suggesting that the ruling NDC’s shortcomings are creating an opportunity for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reclaim power in the 2028 elections.

Speaking at the commissioning of a new party office for the Bantama constituency, led by MP Francis Asenso-Boakye, the ex-president said the NPP’s record in government provides a strong foundation for its return to power.

“You saw the great works under me and Ex-President Kufuor. We did a lot, and these will serve as our campaign tools to reclaim power. You are all witnesses to what is happening under this current administration. Things aren’t going well,” Akufo-Addo told supporters.

NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong echoed the sentiment, noting that many Ghanaians who abstained from voting in the last election now regret their decision. As the party readies itself for its 2026 flagbearer contest, he urged members to correct past mistakes and focus on unity.

“After voting, we must fix the wrongdoings in our party before heading into the next contest,” he said, adding that the NPP must launch an intensive campaign after the primaries to position itself strongly for the 2028 elections.

The event drew senior party officials, constituency executives, traditional leaders, and members of the NPP Loyal Ladies. The Bantama office was hailed as a symbol of grassroots empowerment and effective party organization.

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor also addressed the gathering, calling for discipline and unity among aspirants. He cautioned candidates against divisive rhetoric and urged them to ensure their supporters avoid insults.

“The aspirants should be mindful of what they say. Let’s lead by example and put the interest of the country first. Political service must ultimately be service to the nation,” Kufuor advised.

The party faithful expressed gratitude for the strong turnout, describing it as a testament to loyalty and commitment to the NPP’s cause.
