Alfred Mahama, senior brother of President John Mahama has been shocked by allegations from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the party's Northern Regional chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu was offered a bribe by the president and their younger brother, Ibrahim Mahama to betray the NPP's presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.

The NPP on Tuesday accused the Mahamas of attempting to bribe Mr Naabu with the aim of turning him against the Mr Akufo-Addo to portray him as a divisive ethnocentric bigot and destroy his chances of winning the 2016 elections.

In a press conference at the party's headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, spokesperson of Mr Akufo-Addo, Mustapha Hamid alleged President Mahama and his brother, in a meeting with their chairman on October 28, offered to pay him GH¢3.3 million and other mouth-watering add-ons if he resigned from the NPP to make up stories to assassinate Akufo-Addo's character and was given GH¢500,000 and a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle with registration number GS 687-16 upfront as initial commitment.

This was the full details of the deal they offered Bugri that night:

(1) Brand new V8 Toyota Land Cruiser
(2) Brand new V6 Mitsubishi Pajero
(3) Brand new Nissan Pick-up
(4) GH¢3.3 million, including the contract sum owed to Bugri and minus the GH¢500,000.
(5) Plus a new road contract

The party further produced some documents to support their claims.

But speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen on Wednesday, Mr Mahama stated that the allegation was unfortunate and sad.

This would not be the first time Ibrahim Mahama is giving out a gift to Bugri Naabu who is a family friend so "when I heard NPP's allegations, I was sad because it's false", he stated, adding "we won't bribe Bugri Naabu to join NDC because he will not add anything to the party".

He regretted how his younger brother, Ibrahim was being denigrated by people who had benefited from his benevolence because of politics.

"Ibrahim is a benevolent man. Many NPP members have benefited from his kindness. I leave them to posterity", he bemoaned.
