The Upper Denkyira West District Assembly has "accepted in good faith" the suspension of its District Chief Executive (DCE), David Appianing by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Mr Appianing's  suspension followed comments he made on the lynching of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama.

He had granted media interviews to the effect that Captain Mahama and his troop were in the area to protect illegal small scale miners flouting a nationwide ban on their activities.

His comments described by many as insensitive is said to have incensed President Nana Akufo-Addo who directed Local Government Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama to suspend him.

Addressing a press conference, presiding member of the Assembly, Gabriel Kwadwo Karikari stated that "we have accepted it [the DCE's suspension] in good faith" but pleaded with President Akufo-Addo to visit the area.

"We are appealing to Nana [Akufo-Addo] to come down to the place where the incident happened", he said.

Flanked by other members of the Assembly, Mr Karikari expressed regret about the tragedy and pledged support for the investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"What has happened we are not happy about it and as we told the whole world, we are prepared to help fish out whoever is involved. The whole Denkyira is very sad".

"We want to send our condolence to the bereaved family, especially the children and the mother, especially the military command", he said.
