Former Communications and Digitalisation Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has declared her intention to contest for the position of General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a heartfelt birthday message to party faithful titled “Dearest Patriots,” Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful reflected on the party’s internal challenges following recent setbacks but expressed strong optimism about its ability to rebound.
The former Ablekuma West MP called on party members to unite and reignite the spirit of resilience that has defined the party since its founding in Saltpond.
“A lot of water has passed under the bridge since our stormy face-off with ourselves and our base,” she wrote. “We came out bruised, our individual and collective egos battered. We lie not in a good place. However, as our great tradition had demonstrated over the years… we will thrive.”
Comparing the NPP’s resilience to that of a phoenix, she vowed that the party would rise from its current struggles to reclaim power from what she described as a “clueless, insensitive, and glaringly incompetent” caretaker NDC government.
“This caretaker NDC government is there not just because they are preferred, they are there because they lied their way into government… But we will revive [the belief in us],” she said.
Reaffirming her loyalty to the party, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful declared her readiness to lead the NPP’s reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“On this day of my birth, Patriots, I come before you, the fighter you have always known… to join you on this collective journey to rescue our beloved country… I come to you in all humility, to ask you, dear patriots, to join me on this rescue mission as your next General Secretary.”
She underscored the need for unity, renewal, and strategic mobilisation from the grassroots to the national level to restore confidence in the NPP and position it as the true vehicle of development and progress.
“Across the country and the diaspora, the NPP family comes together as one big family… bound together by the cohesive purpose to re-capture power and do better for ourselves and for mother Ghana,” she affirmed.
