The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is once again demanding live coverage of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, October 1.

The political party is of the view that it will help prevent misinformation and disinformation after the meeting.

They also believe the live coverage will provide  Ghanaian people with real-time and unbiased information on the voters register after the commission’s audit.

The call for live coverage was conveyed by Dr Edward Omane Boamah who heads the NDC’s Election and IT team.

"In the interest of the general public and Ghanaian voters, following the contestations between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Electoral Commission over the 2024 voters register, the EC must allow the media to provide live coverage of the proceedings at the IPAC meeting."

"The live broadcast will provide Ghanaians with real-time and unbiased information on the state of the 2024 voters register after the EC's so-called self-audit or autocorrection of their avoidable (criminal) errors and mistakes."

"Additionally, this live media coverage will also completely eliminate the possibility of misinformation and misrepresentation after the IPAC meeting," he posted.

The Electoral Commission (EC) earlier this month declined a request by the NDC for a live broadcast of a meeting to discuss findings and observations contained in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

NDC wrote to the EC demanding that the meeting to discuss the issues identified in the provisional voters register be broadcast live to ensure transparency.

But the EC in its response to the NDC’s request, said the discrepancies the party is raising are not new and therefore there is no need for a live broadcast of the meeting.

The EC further assured that it is committed to “free, fair, transparent, peaceful, and credible Elections. However, the Commission does not accept the proposal of a live broadcast of this meeting. Our team is ready to meet with your team on the agreed time.”
