The National Democratic Congress, NDC, has defended its action of using legal means to register their displeasure by suing the Electoral Commission for the failure to provide the party's 2019 voters' register being used for the ongoing voters' exhibition which ends today.

According to the party, using legal action was the last resort to compel the commission to give them a copy of the voters' register.

At a news conference addressed by the NDC, yesterday, the National Chairman of the Party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the failure of the EC to provide them with Voters' Register a day to the end of the exhibition flouts the laws and hampered the party's inability to monitor the exercise.

In an interview on Uniqq FM, on September 19 2019 , the National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said : ''We had to take this position because we believed it was the last resort. The party had written to the electoral commission and written a reminder to them requesting that they should comply with the provision of the law C I 91. Which states that the commission shall compile the register and after compiling the register at the end of the compilation of the provisional register a copy shall be given to each registered political party in a form determined by the electoral commission''.

He further indicated that the reason for the NDC raising issues over the voters' register is that the NDC has decided to be vigilant and monitor the party every aspect of the electoral process

''We don't want to go to court one day and say that we have been cheated. So we have trained our people and deployed them in all the 275 consistuencies to make sure they monitor and report on discrepancies. So it shows how serious the NDC party is and seriousness we attach to our preparation towards the 2020 elections''.

''I have heard and read it only media houses that the NPP General Secretary has admitted that the EC has given them a copy of the provisional register. Why have they given the NPP a copy and it's attributed to the NPP General Secretary, John Boadu who has indicated that the party has been given a copy of the provisional register,'' he stated.

Meanwhile, the EC reacting to the allegations leveled  against them refuted allegations that it provided the NPP with the provisional voters' register before the exhibition commenced

The director of elections at the EC, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe said the EC  has not provided any political party with a copy of the register

''I don't think any party has a copy, I personally wrote to the political parties on the 4th of this month and on the 12 of September I received 4 external drives from the political parties and submitted them through my deputy to the IT department. I was even there today and no one has been given the copy''.
