2023 African Games: Black Princesses fight back to beat Tanzania

The Black Princesses came from a goal down to defeat Tanzania 2:1 in the second group A match in the ongoing African Games.

Tanzania’s Aicha opened the scoring in the 22nd minute but Tracey Twum erased the deficit with a great header two minutes to end the first half.

After recess, Ghana built on the momentum as Mukarama Abdulai missed a glorious opportunity to put the team in the lead as her effort went wide.

Abigail Sakyiwaa came on for Mafia Nyame to help readdress the balance in midfield.

The Black Princesses kept the pressure up and forced Mukarama Abdulai to score in the 64th minute off Ophelia Amponsah cross which sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Afi Amenyeku made a crucial save in the 85th minute after a defensive blunder nearly gifted the visitors the equalizer.

The Black Princesses held onto their lead to end the match 2:1 to go top of group A with 6 points.

The Black Princesses will play Uganda in the last group A game on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.
