William Amponsah has won a silver medal in the men’s half-marathon event in the ongoing 13th African Games at the University of Ghana.

He came second after crossing the finish line in one hour, five minutes and thirteen seconds (1:05:13).

Eritrea’s Amare Hailemicael won the race in 1:05:04 while Zimbabwe’s Isaac Mpofu finished third in 1:05:37 to claim bronze.

Speaking afterwards Amponsah said the feat is a source of inspiration for him ahead of the Olympics.

“I’m solely inspired. Every achievement I’ve made is inspiring me to do more.”

“There is the notion that East Africans are the best in this race. It gives me that inspiration to work hard and compete in this game.”

Amponsah was not the only Ghanaian in the half-marathon race. He did it with Koogo Atia, the 2022 Ghana Armed Forces Cross Country champion. Atia finished 15th with the time of 1:12:14.
