Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, says the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has proposed a $13.7 million budget for the Black Stars’ participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Mr Adams told Parliament’s Sports Committee that the proposal, equivalent to GH¢146 million, covers pre-tournament preparations, group-stage participation and potential progression to the knockout rounds.
He said $1.23 million has been earmarked for pre‑tournament activities, including a FIFA‑approved training camp and international friendlies to be played.
Mr Adams stated that the group stage accounts for the largest share of spending at $6.28 million, covering appearance fees, match bonuses, per diems for players and technical staff, and allowances for additional officials.
The Sports Minister said expenditure would decline if the team reached the knockout stage because appearance fees would not be paid beyond the group phase.
The projected cost for the round of 32 is $690,000.
Estimated spending for later rounds includes $920,000 for the Round of 16, $1.14 million for the quarterfinals, $1.37 million for the semi-finals and $1.84 million should Ghana reach the final.
An additional $310,000 has been allocated for honorariums for management, officials and support staff.
Ghana opens their 2026 World Cup campaign against Panama, before matches against England and Croatia respectively.
