FC Barçelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu, has hinted of the club's plans to establish a team to compete in the National Womens's Soccer League (NWSL) of the United States.

Speaking to Barça TV after the opening ceremony of the club's new offices in New York, Bartomeu said, we will “create a team that can take part in the National Women's Soccer League” in the form of a franchise “that will help us to promote the club”

According to him, since women’s soccer was a very important sport in this region, the club's profile would be boosted in the United States if they established a franchise in the NWSL.

Apart from football, the Barça President is also proposing “the creation of a futsal team to compete in the local leagues”.

Also, the Barça President said, we will focus on charity and education in order to get “us even closer to our fans”

“One of the goals is to set up projects with the Foundation and to establish a broad network of FCB Escola soccer schools to help to project the club’s name around the territory”, he stated.Â
