Former Medeama SC Coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu has revealed the reasons behind Hearts of Oak struggles in the Ghana Premier League.

According to him, the Phobians are struggling to defend their title because they didn't have enough rest after the end of the 2020/21 season.

He is of the view that Samuel Boadu needs to freshen his squad by giving playing time to others.

He added that Hearts of Oak keep conceding late goals in games is due to fatigue.

“Other teams had holidays Hearts of Oak didn’t have, it has nothing to do with technical or tactical. I guess they have to rotate their squad and have believe in the other players," Ignatius Osei-Fosu told Max TV.

“When you look at their centre back pairing they started playing early last year and for almost a year they haven’t had a break. They were preparing for Africa when other teams were on break so their woes are down to tiredness because they have the quality. They concede a lot of late goals because when you’re tired your eyes become weary and lose concentration”

Hearts of Oak are having a mixed season in the ongoing league. The defending champions have been inconsistent on their pitch and are yet to go on a three-match winning streak.

The Phobians suffered a 1-0 defeat at Nana Agyemang Badu I Park on Sunday to Aduana Stars which was their fifth loss of the season.

However, Samuel Boadu who was speaking after the game is confident his side can bounce back and challenge Asante Kotoko for the title.

“The title race is not yet over,” Boadu said.

“This is football, the boys played well but were not able to convert their chances.”

Hearts of Oak are now in 6th place on the league log with 29 points from 20 games and will take on AshantiGold in the next game.
