The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Sports Ghana (CSG) have unveiled a four-year Strategic Plan (2025–2029) for sustainable sports success in Ghana.

The strategic document reflects a clear vision and shared commitment to a roadmap that aligns the GOC’s values, resources, and aspirations, serving as a guide for stakeholders working together to advance the Olympic movement in Ghana.

According to the GOC, the document represents a significant milestone in its collective journey to strengthen sports development, improve governance, and position Ghana for sustained excellence on both the Olympic stage and beyond.

The plan has six schematic areas of operations to put athletes at the centre, build capacity, empower women, promote inclusive leadership with integrity, enhance sports funding, and build strategic partnerships.

Speaking at the unveiling, the GOC President, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, stated that the plan was the result of collective efforts from across the GOC family. He emphasised that the initiative aims to establish Ghana as a sporting powerhouse on the continent and beyond.

“We are not just dreaming of medals; we are building a system to prioritise the well-being, development, and success of athletes in every decision, policy, and programme,” he said.

“We are strengthening the capabilities of all stakeholders to ensure sustainable sports development and effective governance,” Mr. Akpokavie added.

He noted that promoting gender equity and fostering a culture of ethical, transparent leadership would be hallmarks of his administration. These efforts, he said, were intended to build trust, accountability, and collaboration across the sports ecosystem.

The President also disclosed plans for the establishment of sustainable and diversified funding mechanisms to support grassroots development, elite performance, and organisational operations.

He added that the GOC would focus on maintaining strategic alliances that add value, enhance visibility, and bring innovation and resources to the sector.

Mr. Akpokavie thanked the GOC Board, the Executive Committee, and Mr. Christopher Essilfie, the consultant who spearheaded the development of the strategic plan.

The Guest of Honour, Dr. Fred Awaah, Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), congratulated the GOC for its forward-thinking approach and praised the committee for integrating scientific methodology into sports management to move the nation forward.

While acknowledging the comprehensive nature of the document, Dr. Awaah pledged the NSA’s support in its execution, adding that the authority stands ready to collaborate on all fronts, including policy and infrastructure.
