England boss Gareth Southgate heaped praise on Harry Kane after his goal sent England to the semifinals of the UEFA Nations League following a 2-1 comeback win over Croatia on Sunday, November 19.

England went down in the 57th minute to a brilliant solo effort by Andrej Kramarić but they rallied from behind to pull level in the 78th minute when substitute Jesse Lingard tapped in from close range. With England headed for relegation, Harry Kane stepped up to score the winner that booked them a slot in the semifinals and confirmed Croatia’s relegation.

Southgate hailed Harry Kane as the best striker in the World after the game, “Harry’s the best goalscorer in the world, frankly. We have a huge belief in him. He’s so hungry to lead the team on and further.”

The England manager also defended his decision to stick with Kane despite not scoring since the World Cup, "You’re always loath to take a player of Harry’s ability off. He played a fantastic pass for Raheem Sterling after dropping off deep and turning in the first half. I know people have questioned some of my decisions, but Harry’s our main penalty taker, our leader. In 98 per cent of games, his hold-up play and goalscoring is critical.”
