The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has handed a lengthy suspension to Hohoe United FC, banning the club from the Ghana Premier League and all affiliated competitions until the 2029/2030 season.

In a statement released by the GFA, the decision, delivered on Friday, May 1, 2026, follows Hohoe United’s unilateral withdrawal from the ongoing 2025/26 campaign, an action the GFA Disciplinary Committee ruled to be in breach of Article 13 of the league’s regulations.

According to the Disciplinary Committee, the club formally notified the FA of its decision on April 1, 2026, during the second round of the season, and subsequently failed to honour its remaining fixtures. The GFA found the club guilty of misconduct.

As part of the sanctions, all registered players of Hohoe United will be declared free agents by the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee, allowing them to join new clubs without restrictions, subject to prior transfer conditions.

The club has also been demoted and will compete in Division Two under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association after serving its suspension.

Additionally, Hohoe United has been ordered to refund all financial and material support received from the FA for the 2025/26 season. The ruling further notes that the suspension does not cancel any outstanding financial obligations owed by the club.

The club has three days from the date of notification to appeal the decision to the GFA Appeals Committee.
