Management of Asante Kotoko have named Coach Johnson Smith as the stop-gap coach following the sacking of Norwegian gaffer Kjetil Zachariassen.

Earlier last month, Smith was appointed as the new assistant coach of the Kumasi-based club for two years.

Asante Kotoko terminated their contract with Kjetil Zachariassen after failing to earn them a place in the group stages of the 2019/20 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Coach Smith has rich coaching experience in Ghana Football having served as head coach of Sekondi Hasaacas, Bibiani GoldStars, Eleven Wise and Berekum Arsenals.

He helped Karela United to secure qualification to the Ghana Premier League during the 2017 season.

Coach Smith guided Karela United to reach the finals of the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition tier-1.
