Asante Kotoko have announced the abrupt end of Abdul Fatawu Safiu's second tenure with the club, citing medical reasons for the termination of his contract.

Despite initially signing a two-year deal on January 15, Safiu's return to the team has been cut short.

In a statement, Kotoko clarified that the decision to terminate his contract stemmed from medical concerns.

"This medical assessment was duly done awaiting further tests. The further assessment by the club’s medical team revealed other health related issues which could rule him out for a long period. The club, after being informed about the situation, concluded that continuing an employment contract with the player would not be of full benefit to both parties - the club and the player. Details of the specific medical condition have been clearly communicated to the player."

Despite Safiu's sudden exit, the club has left the door open for him to contribute in any capacity in the future.

The former Trelleborgs FF forward was set for a second spell at the club since departing the club in 2019.

Safiu enjoyed a sensational first spell, scoring 13 goals in sixteen appearances and led the lines in the team’s impressive run in the CAF Confederation Cup.

He won the best player and top scorer in the Normalization Committee’s special competition, which earned him a move to Sweden.
