Libyan champions Al-Swehly have announced the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Kwasi Sibo on a three-year contract, with an option to extend the deal for a further year.
The 28-year-old joins the club as a free agent after leaving Spanish side Real Oviedo at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Al-Swehly confirmed the transfer on Tuesday, August 25.
Sibo’s move follows the collapse of a proposed transfer to Turkish Süper Lig side Gençlerbirliği, which reportedly broke down at an advanced stage of negotiations. The setback paved the way for Al-Swehly to secure the Ghanaian’s signature.
The midfielder’s arrival is seen as a major statement of intent by the Libyan side as they seek success both domestically and in continental competition.
Reports suggest the deal is worth around $10 million, with the transfer linked to wider efforts aimed at attracting established African players to the Libyan league.
Sibo heads to North Africa after featuring prominently for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He played in all four of the Black Stars’ matches, accumulating 249 minutes and starting the team’s goalless draw against England. He also made appearances against Panama, Croatia and Colombia.
The former Real Oviedo player is expected to play a key role in Al-Swehly’s CAF Champions League campaign, with the Libyan champions set to face Zanzibar’s KVZ in the preliminary round.
