Manchester City continued their 100% start to the season, beating Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Kevin de Bruyne led City's fast start, slotting past David de Gea one-on-one, before lashing against the post, the rebound converted by Kelechi Iheanacho.

However, debutant City keeper Claudio Bravo spilt a Wayne Rooney cross at the feet of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who kept his composure to cut the deficit.

Both teams had second-half chances, but City held on to take all three points.

City started impressively in a frenetic fixture, showing greater quality and composure on the ball as both teams flew into challenges.

In one of the game's subplots, City manager Pep Guardiola drew first blood in his renewed rivalry with United counterpart Jose Mourinho, who gave first starts of the season to Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, only to replace them both at half-time.

The hosts had more possession in the second half, with Ibrahimovic having a goal ruled out for offside after deflecting a shot from the dangerous Marcus Rashford, who was introduced after 45 minutes.

But City remained dangerous throughout, with De Bruyne coming within inches of scoring his second when he hit the post for a second time late on.

Bravo, signed to replace City favourite Joe Hart, made a number of errors from crosses and with ball at his feet, but United failed to capitalise, with both teams fading late on.
