The National Sports Authority (NSA) and Green Grass Technology (GGT) have started works on the Cape Coast Stadium pitch to ensure the provision of quality pitch after the Independence Day celebration.

This year's Independence Day was held at the Cape Coast Stadium and the celebration has destroyed the pitch.

With just weeks to the Black Stars of Ghana's all-important clash with Nigeria at the Cape Coast Stadium for a World Cup ticket, the nation is worried about the readiness of the pitch to host the clash.

However, the NSA in a statement revealed that work has commenced to get the pitch ready for the match.

"Work has begun in earnest to restore the Cape Coast Stadium pitch immediately after the 6th March Independence anniversary last Sunday; and in preparation to host the Ghana vs Nigeria World Cup qualifier match on March 25, 2022, a statement read.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) is working closely with its consultant, the Green Grass Technology Ltd,led by Mr Frank Boahen. Various interventional activities such as fertilizer application, intensive regiments of watering and aeration through spiking are currently underway."

Ghana on Sunday, March 6 celebrated her 65th Independence Day anniversary at the Cape Coast Sports stadium in the Central Region for the first time.

The event on the theme: “Working Together; Bouncing Back Better”, was attended by dignitaries including the Prime Minister of the Republic of Barbados, Mia Mottley, who was the special guest.

Meanwhile, the first leg of Ghana vs Nigeria World Cup playoff will take place at the Cape Coast Stadium whereas the second leg takes place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 25 and 29 respectively.
