Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has joined Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab on a one-year deal, the club confirmed on Friday.
The 33-year-old midfielder moves to Saudi Arabia following the expiration of his contract with Spanish club Villarreal, where he spent the 2025/26 season.
Partey brings extensive experience from some of Europe’s biggest leagues, having previously played for Atletico Madrid and Arsenal. During his time with the North London club, he made 130 appearances and scored nine goals across all competitions.
Known for his strength, tactical intelligence, passing ability and composure in midfield, Partey became an important figure at Arsenal during his spell in the Premier League.
He joined Villarreal as a free agent in 2025 and featured 25 times in all competitions during his only season with the Spanish side.
His move to Al Shabab marks another significant chapter in his club career, with the Saudi Pro League continuing to attract experienced players from across world football. Partey is expected to add quality and experience to the club’s midfield.
At international level, Partey remains an important member of the Ghana national team. He represented the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, featuring in three matches as Ghana advanced to the Round of 32.
His continued involvement at club level will be important as Ghana prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which is scheduled to begin in September.
The Black Stars will be seeking to return to the continental showpiece after missing the previous edition, with Partey’s experience and leadership expected to remain valuable to the national team.
The midfielder will now turn his attention to his new challenge in Saudi Arabia, where he will look to maintain his fitness and form while continuing to play a key role for Ghana.
