Ghana’s Black Galaxies suffered a slim defeat to South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in an international friendly on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

The match played at the Dobsonville Stadium saw the Bafana Bafana beat Ghana 1-0 courtesy of a Sipho Mbule’s second-half strike.

Speaking after the game, South Africa coach Hugo Broos expressed excitement with the results, cautioning that the team needs to work on certain aspects before the AFCON kicks off next week.

"I am very happy with the result, but we can be much better than we showed,” Broos said. “We did not play a very good game, where was not so much movement in the team that we are used too. The passing was not good.

"We will have to be better next week (against Angola in their AFCON Group B opener in Marrakech).

"Maybe the players were a little bit afraid to be injured ahead of the AFCON. It was the same two years ago against Lesotho in our last game before the tournament, which was also horrible.”

How Ghana lined up.

Heart of Lions shot-stopper Lawrence Osei started in goal. Kamaradini Mamudu (Medeama SC) linee up at right-back, with Isaac Afful on the left.

At the heart of defence, Nations FC captain Razak Simpson partnered Heart of Lions skipper Ebenezer Abban.

In midfield, Etse Dogli and Salim Adams provided cover, while Nana Kusi Asante operated in a more advanced central role. Prince Owusu and Suraj Seidu started on the wings, with Emmanuel Annor leading the line.
