Photos: Sports Ministry inaugurates Audit Committee

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 inaugurated the Ministry’s Audit Committee to support the Ministry to deliver on its mandate in a transparent and accountable manner.

After administering the oath of office and oath of secrecy to members of the committee, the Minister charged members to work in the interest of Ghanaians to ensure that corrupt practices are nipped in the bud.

According to the Minister, the Audit Committee is a Statutory requirement by the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act 2016(921) for all Ministries and other state institutions.

He noted that the Ministry has constantly been under the searchlight of the public due to its strategic importance and the interest that the public has in it.

He, therefore, charged the newly elected committee to work assiduously to ensure proper accountability to the good people of Ghana.

Hon. Ussif congratulated the members and stated that the primary purpose of the committee was to supervise the financial reporting process, the audit control process, the organization’s system of internal audit controls and compliance with existing laws and regulations adding that the Act places a lot of responsibility on committee members to provide direction and guidance to the Internal Audit Unit of the Ministry.

He intimated that corruption has been a canker in the society and for this reason, Government set out to fight corruption and corrupt practices by establishing the office of the special prosecutor.

"This tells you the commitment of the NPP Government to fight corruption".

In his welcome remarks, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam noted that the Ministry was under the obligation to constitute the committee since it was mandatory to do so.

He expressed his confidence in the membership of the committee and asked them to discharge their duties professionally since it was a privilege and an opportunity to change the narrative as far as transparency and accountability is concerned.

Members of the committee include Mr Vug Nanke, Internal Audit Agency, Mrs Ernestina Okailey Djanetey also from the Internal Audit Agency, Mr Frank Sinatra Nkrumah, Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana, Mr Harrison K. Sasu, Ministry of youth and sports and Mrs Cynthia Mettle-Nunoo also from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
