Tariq Lamptey has left Fiorentina after a mutual agreement was reached to terminate his contract.
The 25-year-old joined Fiorentina from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer but departs having made just two appearances for the Italian club.
The Ghana international sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) in his left knee in September, just weeks after joining.
Both of his two appearances for Fiorentina came in September as he came off the bench for two substitute cameos against Napoli and Como. He sustained the ACL injury in the game against Como on September 21 and then failed to make a matchday squad again, accumulating just 25 minutes in a Fiorentina shirt. A statement from Fiorentina in September described the injury as a “complex medical situation”.
Lamptey has suffered with injury problems since he burst onto the Premier League scene. He joined Brighton from his boyhood club Chelsea, in January 2020.
Despite agreeing to a one-year contract extension with Brighton in June, the right-back dropped down the pecking order at the Amex Stadium under head coach Fabian Hurzeler.
Lamptey has made 11 appearances for Ghana, but his last appearance for the national team came in October 2024. Ghana were drawn into Group D at this summer’s World Cup. They will face Panama (June 18), England (June 23), and Croatia (June 27).
