Football is arguably the best sporting discipline in the World. Some players consistently produced mind-boggling performances but others though, have the intrinsic talent but predominantly flatter to deceive. There are several players in the world at the moment whose hype have been scandalous and totally undeserved. In other words, their hype does not correspond with their output on the pitch. However, the publicities and propagandas always come to the fore following their popularity coupled with their coruscating pictures on social media. Players who warrant extreme hype and publicity should be consistent and have the propensity to decide games on their own.

Primenewsghana, therefore, selected the top 10 players who hide behind their adoration in order to publicize their performance but in reality, they do not warrant the hype they attain, therefore, are OVERRATED.

10. Jorginho ( Chelsea)

Jorginho has abruptly been on the limelight ahead of several players who are doubtlessly performing to the highest standard consistently. Jorginho is obviously not vibrant on social media but the hype around him is scandalous following Chelsea's superb start of the Premier League campaign. Jorginho has taken the headlines because he is the fulcrum of Sarri's philosophy dubbed the "Sarriball". However, the midfielder has predominantly been spreading square passes, yes, Chelsea fans will argue of numerous passes but the empirical point is that the Italian has been giving redundant passes because he has got no assist. He has been able to register only 11 key passes in the EPL this season behind 59 other players. It is clear the Italian is enjoying the plaudits he does not deserve.

9. Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

Jack Wilshere is just another example of an overrated player who has been wrongly hyped up by the British press. The West Ham midfielder conspicuously has a huge amount of ability, but what he appears to be lacking is the correct temperament coupled with recurring injuries. The English midfielder's career has been plagued by injuries which impedes his development as a player. The midfielder, who was touted as the "New Scholes" has been highly inconsistent but anytime he comes to the party, the media will commence using shocking adjectives to describe him but in a real sense, he is performing below par and does not deserve the hype around him.

8. Hulk (Shanghai SIPG)

The Brazilian forward rose through the ranks and was highly-regarded as one of the best center-forwards. However, he has never lived up to expectation. He was once described by FIFA's official website as "a direct powerhouse of a centre- or wide-forward who knows his way around the box but the real truth is, he has hardly been instrumental for a side or produced an eye-glaring performance. The few he does are always over-hyped. This is a player that has evaded the top-five leagues in Europe as these leagues are regarded as tough and competitive. Only the best excel. There is no doubt of his talent but his performance on a big stage rarely corresponds with his hype.

7. Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

This is highly controversial but continue reading before you start berating me. Sergio Ramos has been a mainstay in the Real Madrid backline since making his debut for the club in 2004 and has won over 10 major honours for the club. The truth is, Ramos is a defender and not an attacker, and he will be deemed as such. Ramos has been highly inconsistent for Real Madrid, yes, he is extremely robust, very physical and always portray antics on the pitch but defensively, the Spaniard mostly commit mistakes.  He, alone, has picked up over 30 bookings for his club and the defender has been sent off over 20 times in his career. Too many times the player has left his club and country teammates to cover up his mess, but luckily they have overcome the difficulties and his inept performances have been overlooked.

6. David Luiz (PSG)

Like Ramos, David Luiz has been consistently producing amateurish performances but Thank God, he is always in a good team to cover him his howlers. The Brazilian is full of flaws, his inability to protect his own goalmouth left Chelsea with huge problems. When Jose Mourinho arrived, he was quick to notice these issues and made sure that if Luiz was in the starting XI, it was in a midfield holding role so there was another line of defence to mop up any potential mistakes. Again, Conte brought the Brazilian back and got the best out of them due to his three-back system coupled with two defensive-minded midfielders in Matic and Kante. However, Luis has been hugely exposed again because of the 4-3-3 formation and Kante's position altered, The Blues have no defensive cover to clean up the mess committed by the Brazilian and that has massively uncovered his frailties. But shockingly, he is still rated as one of the best central defenders at the moment.

5. Gerard Piqué

While Barcelona fans may not agree with his inclusion in this article, Gerard Pique, regarded as one of the best has been enigmatic for me. The center-back, unlike the defenders mentioned earlier, he is full of flaws and commits "kindergarten" errors which cannot be accepted as a defender of his "believed calibre". The Spaniard scores goals to amend his errors and is mostly helped by his center partner, like Carles Puyol and most recently Samuel Umtiti. He gets the hype, probably because he plays for Barcelona but the fact is that defensively he is nowhere near one of the best.

4. Edinson Cavani

The Uruguayan is obviously one of the most potent strikers of this generation statistically, you might be wondering why he has been included in this article. The point is simple, everybody would choose to have a striker who will get one chance and bury it rather than a striker who gets ten chances and scores five goals. This is called Potency in front of goal. Cavani is not an instinctive goalscorer. The 31-year-old misses numerous chances before finding the back of the net. He often goes missing in big games which is unusual of a world class striker. He has indeed been able to fill in the boots of the great Zlatan Ibrahimovic at PSG but become anonymous in crucial games which is never a characteristic of a highly-rated player.

3. Paul Pogba

In terms of pure statistics, the player has performed extremely for both Juventus and Manchester United. But, statistics can, very well, flatter to deceive, Pogba has been highly inconsistent for Manchester United since he joined the Red Devils in 2016 from the Bianconeri. The midfielder was brilliant at Juventus but how about France and Manchester United?. Not really, He heavily relies on other midfielders to ease his work and when they are unavailable, it is very difficult for the Frenchman to impose himself and dictate the tempo of games. He lacks the brain as to what to do at a point in time in the game. As Manchester United Legend, Scholes said: "You look at his game, he can be brilliant one week and not so good the next week." Scholes' submissions sums who Pogba is and therefore should not get the plaudits he deserves.

2. Dele Alli

It is obvious that Dele Alli is one of the most talented youngsters in football currently. The English youngster has been scoring goals for fun but the English Press as well have been giving him plaudits undeservedly. He fails to finish off easy chances and hence the goal-scoring burden has been put upon Harry Kane altogether, to the extent that, Son Heung-min usually steps to fill in the boots of the latter. This clearly explains the progress of the youngster. He has the potential to be one of the best yes, but currently, Alli is miles behind the one of the best tag.

1. Luka Modric

It is a palpable fallacy if you believe Modric is incredibly talented. The truth is the Croatian has been overrated to the extent of him receiving the FIFA Best Player of the Year Award. There’s absolutely no way he even deserves half the praise he’s been getting now. I’m not hating. I know how underrated his efforts were initially but the praises are just puffery. The anticipation of Christiano Ronaldo has made the Croat attain the extreme hype which does not warrant relating to his output on the pitch. He is a good player, no doubt, but the movement of attackers eases his job on the field. Again, The point of playing for Real Madrid automatically gives the former Spurs man the hype. Playing simple football with several non-defense splitting passes does not rate you amongst the greats.

This humble article is based on my observations of the players over time.
