At the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023, some records including that of the highest number of matches played in the tournament are expected to be broken.

We take a look at the Top 5 players who have achieved that feat.

 

Rigobert Song (Cameroon, 36 matches from 1998 to 2010)

Current coach and manager of Cameroon, Rigobert holds the record for the highest number of matches played in the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON. Between 1998 and 2010, the former defender stood up to the continent's greatest attackers. He also won 2 TotalEnergies CAF AFCON titles.

 

 

Andre Ayew (Ghana, 34 games from 2008 to 2021)

He could break Song's record during this edition. The captain of the Black Stars is only two matches shy. And knowing the importance of Andre in the Ghana system, Song can already look forward to congratulating him.

 

Ahmed Hassan (Egypt, 32 matches from 1996 to 2010)

He was part of the golden generation of the Pharaohs. Ahmed Hassan played in 8 finals and won 4 trophies.

 

Seydou Keita (Mali, 31 matches from 2002 to 2015)

With 7 editions of TotalEnergies CAF AFCON under his belt, Seydou Keita is part of this list with 31 matches played. The former FC Barcelona player has often failed to reach the finals of the competition.

 

Geremi Njitap (Cameroon, 31 matches from 1998 to 2010)

The former defender has also had longevity on African soil. In total, he has played in 7 Africa Cup of Nations and won 2.

This list can also include the Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan who also has 31 TotalEnergies CAF AFCON matches, with 7 final stages played from 2008 to 2019.
