Ayew brothers release statement on Black Stars exit

Spokesperson for the Ayew family, Fiifi Tackie has rubbished reports that both Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew have quit the Black Stars after the team’s elimination from AFCON 2021.

Reports on Wednesday, January 26, suggested the duo were set to quit playing for the Black Stars after speculations of being involved in using ‘black magic’ during the team’s camping in Cameroon for the AFCON.

However, Tackie, in a post on Twitter revealed both Andre and Jordan have no intentions of leaving retiring from national duty and are committed to ‘representing Ghana’.

MP urges Black Stars to forfeit Nigeria clash in World Cup 2022 qualifiers

Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Patrick Boamah has urged the Ghana Football Association to withdraw from upcoming World Cup 2022 qualifiers against rivals Nigeria.

According to him, the Black Stars in their current state is no match for the Nigerian team and that it will be in the interest of Ghana to forfeit that game. 

He advocated the dissolution of the Black Stars and contended that the Black Stars should embark on no international competition for the next five years.

The lawmaker said that whereas Nigeria distinguished itself at the AFCON, the Black Stars failed miserably.

 

Kobe Bryant statue placed at site of helicopter crash

A sculpture of NBA great Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna "Gigi" Bryant has been brought to the helicopter crash site where they died alongside seven others on a hillside near Los Angeles two years ago.

The 73-kg bronze statue depicts the pair wearing basketball kits and sharing a loving glance as Gigi holds Kobe's hand as it rests on her shoulder.

Sculptor Dan Medina was on hand to greet fans who made the 1.3 mile hike to pay their respects to the sports legend.

Biennial World Cup can help save African lives – FIFA president

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has suggested reforms to football’s calendar could help prevent Africans from risking their lives to migrate.
 

World football’s governing body has put forward plans which include staging a World Cup every two years.

Infantino says more regular World Cups can help provide hope for some nations.

 

“We need to give opportunities and we need to give dignity, not by giving charity, but by allowing the rest of the world to participate,” he said.

41 Participants complete License D Coaching Course in Volta Region

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) License D Coaching course which began in the Volta Regional capital, Ho early January has ended successfully on January 24, 2022.

The intensive course was under the organization of the Technical Directorate of the GFA in partnership with the Volta Regional Football Association(VRFA).

 

The training programme commenced with Forty-one (41) participants who have successfully undergone the appropriate training session (theory and practical) and those who attain the passed mark will be certified by the GFA .

Course instructors included Abukari Damba and Burton Asare Wilson.
