Ghana’s Black Queens have been drawn into Group D for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Black Queens in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali, and Cape Verde. Per the pedigree of the team in African women’s football, it is a familiar path as Ghana played in the same Group with Mali in the previous edition.
The Black Queens will be banking on experience and growing squad depth to navigate what promises to be a demanding group phase with the aim of securing a semifinal berth for the second time in a row.
Record title holders Nigeria are placed in Group C, where they will meet Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi. Hosts Morocco top Group A alongside Algeria, Senegal, and Kenya, while Group B features South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Tanzania.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, with Ghana aiming not only for WAFCON glory but also a return to the FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 19-year absence—a semifinal berth will secure their qualification. The tournament is scheduled from March 17 to April 3.
