Black Stars B captain, Shafiu Mumuni is confident his outfit will defend its title in the ongoing WAFU Championship in Senegal.

Ghana won the 2017 edition of the WAFU tournament for a second time after thumping bitterest rivals Nigeria 4-1.

They begin their title defence today, October 1 at 5:00 pm against Gambia and the skipper of the side maintains with the support of Ghanaians behind them, they will make the nation proud.

“We are well and self-motivated coming into this WAFU, we make sure to maintain our champions status.

“People all around knows about our team, the Senegalese have been saying we will be playing the finals with them because they know what we can do.

“I have hopes in my teammates, I strongly believe we will go far in this tournament, this is a different team altogether.

“The mentally in camp is very positive, all we want is the support and prayers of Ghanaians and believe with this we will bring the trophy to Ghana.”

The match with Gambia will determine the team’s path for the rest of the tournament.

A victory takes them into the cup competition’s quarter finals to face either Burkina Faso or hosts, Senegal while a defeat sends Ghana into the plate competition for the losers of the first round matches.

In that case, Ghana’s opponents could be either Guinea-Bissau or Mauritania.

The WAFU 2019 kick-started on 28 September and is excepted to end on 13 October 2019.
