Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor is optimistic his outfit will be victorious when they take on South Africa today.

Ghana play as guest to South Africa at the FNB Stadium on matchday two of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Ghana recorded a slim win (1-0) against Ethiopia on Friday in their Group G opener at the Cape Coast stadium to move top of Group G after Zimbabwe held South Africa to a 0-0 draw in Harare.

The Black Stars are hopeful of maintaining their 100% record after the match.

Speaking in his press conference CK Akonnor said his troops are aiming for the three points to keep their World Cup dreams unscathed.

"It is a match that we have taken very, very seriously, when we played Ethiopia, there were certain things we needed to do, we have learnt from those things and I believe that come Monday, we will improve and we are looking to have a good match and the team is looking forward to have the three points."

The Black Stars last visit to Johannesburg in March this year, produced a draw against South Africa – a result that sealed Ghana’s qualification to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko coach maintained that if his boys play to his instructions Ghana would "carry the day."

What I know is that we are now playing the qualifiers for the World Cup. In our first match, we won, we had three points, and they shared spoils with Zimbabwe and are now under pressure. You can see that they need the points badly but we also need it so bad so it’s a battle we don’t have to lose sight of.  But if we are able to be clever in the things we have to do, we will carry the day.

The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm kick at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

The Black Stars are chasing a return to the World Cup after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia.

It will be their fourth appearance at the global showpiece should they qualify for Qatar 2022.
