The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, has announced significant reductions in MTN Ghana's fibre broadband prices, describing the move as a response to calls for more affordable internet services.
In a post on Facebook, the Minister said, the telecom company had responded positively to calls for lower broadband costs and improved service delivery.
According to the Minister, the price of MTN's unlimited 100Mbps fibre broadband package has dropped from GH¢987 to GH¢299 per month, representing a reduction of nearly 70 percent.
Under the new pricing structure, customers can also access an unlimited 300Mbps package for GH¢444 per month, while the unlimited 500Mbps package will cost GH¢999 monthly.
“You demanded. We engaged. MTN Ghana has responded,” George said in a statement announcing the revised tariffs.
“Effective today, fibre broadband prices have crashed. Previously, for a month of unlimited 100Mbps broadband, you paid GH¢987. Today, for the same 100Mbps, you pay GH¢299,” he stated.
The Minister expressed appreciation to the management and staff of MTN Ghana for responding to government efforts to improve access to affordable, stable and reliable internet services.
“I want to express my gratitude to the management and staff of MTN who have heeded our call for more affordable, stable and reliable fibre broadband,” he said.
Mr George assured the public that the Ministry would continue to work with industry players to secure better service packages and improve digital connectivity across the country.
“From the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, we will continue to push for better service packages for the Ghanaian people,” he added.
The reduction is expected to benefit households, businesses, students and remote workers who rely heavily on high-speed internet for education, commerce and communication.
