Kenyans are currently voting to decide the fate of two main candidates, Raila Odinga of the opposition and President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is seeking a  re-election, though six other candidates are contesting the elections.

The election has so far been marred by suspicion of rigging, murder and fear of a repeat of 2007, when the country was bathed in bloodbath after a similar election which Mr. Odinga claimed victory was taken away from him.

At 71 and possibly his last shot to the presidency, reports say Mr. Odinga is hopeful of being lucky to run a country his father, Odinga Odinga, served as its vice to Jomo Kenyatta, father of Uhuru and the country’s first post independent president.

There are reports of long queues forming at various polling stations and the hashtag #KenyaDecides2017 has been trending on social media, with photos of people either casting their ballot or being walked to the polling stations to exercise their franchise.

But one of the pictures that appear to have gone viral is that of the country’s first lady Margaret Kenyatta, who was snapped in a queue wrapped in a cloth and waiting to cast her ballot. There are reports she joined voters and stood in the queue for close to three hours, like other voters.

Reports say voting has so far been peaceful despite some minor cases in certain centres in the country.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta has cast his ballot. Speaking to the media he promised to abide by and respect the outcome of the ballot no matter how it goes and assured Kenyans that he will ensure the country does not descend into the chaos that followed the elections ten years ago.
